Latest adventures

Getting a cochlear implant was one of the best decisions I made in my short life. My excellent surgeon, Dr. Joe Roberson, his CI surgeon team ( Dr. Ted Mason and a few others ) managed to drill out the bone growth from my cochlea. More about my first cochlear implant surgery and activation in another blog.

Several years later, I've decided to get a second cochlear implant. I'm in the process of finding out my options and it looks like my insurance will cover everything though I might have a co-payment of $200 to $300.

I'm hoping to have my 2nd cochlear implant surgery during the summer while my voice teacher is on her maternity leave.

Making Lemonade out of Lemons

I attended a wonderful event given by a friend, Suzannah Scully, at the Republic. She gave a talk about the documentary filmmaker who produced a film about the newly unemployed and how they "made lemonade out of lemons".

Suzannah Scully is giving another workshop on Wednesday, June 24th and I am thinking of attending the workshop.

Academy Awards at the Republic in the Marina district

What a wonderful event it was!  This year I decided to do something different for the Academy Awards evening.  Several friends were having a party at the Republic, a new wine bar in the Marina district of San Francisco.  They invited me to join them.

The wonderful Peter Scully, one of the owners, emailed me to let me know that they set up one of the TV screens with the subtitles so I was able to watch the Academy Awards on TV and enjoy reading the dialogue and watching the fashions.

We had Kir drinks, nachos and popcorn with melted butter in a cup for dipping.  We also had papers with checklist of different categories.  Some of my guesses were correct.  I predicted correctly who would win Best Actress, Best Actor, Best supporting Actress, Best supporting Actor and Best Picture!

One funny incident during the event was when a friend of my friends showed up with his friend.  I thought he was Jim H. from Amanda's New Year party but it was not him.  He said I do not know him and showed me his driver's license.  It was embarrassing at first but now I can laugh about it.
